This $70,000 viola was stolen in Boston

After a $70,000 viola was stolen in Boston, police are asking for the public’s help.

The viola worth $70,000 went missing between 2 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27 during a larceny on Glenville Avenue, the Boston Police Department said.

The viola is 16.5 inches long and stored inside a black BAM Black Panther HighTech case with two Boston University stickers and a Vivant Vintage sticker. The case alone is worth $1,300.

The Boston police strongly urged anyone with information to contact District D-14 Detectives at (617) 343-4256. Those wishing to remain anonymous can do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).

In 2021, a flute worth more than $10,000 that was left in a taxi cab a decade prior was returned to its rightful owner, according to Boston police.

It was found after it was brought to a music store to determine its value.

The man who had the flute turned it over to police and told officers he bought the instrument from an unknown man, according to the department. But police said they later determined the man who was in possession of the flute was the cab driver who was operating the taxi the day the instrument was reported missing.
