Husband killed in Brookline car crash, wife expected to survive

A 50-year-old man has died after having a medical episode that caused him to crash his car into a tree in Brookline this past weekend, according to the Brookline Police Department.

The multi-vehicle crash happened at the intersection of Route 9 and Warren Street around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, Brookline police said on Facebook.

Responding officers learned that a vehicle hit a tree after striking several cars and going off the road. This resulted in the two people inside the car, a husband and wife, being trapped, according to police.

The Brookline Fire Department responded to the crash and pulled the couple from the car, police said. Both were taken to Beth Israel Hospital with serious injuries. The driver did not survive.

The passenger, who was the driver’s wife, is still hospitalized. As of Sunday night, police said she was in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Three other people were taken to the hospital with less serious injuries, police added. The investigation is ongoing.
