Country singer Drake White and his wife Alex are mourning the loss of their baby daughter.
White’s daughter Della, who was born at 29 weeks, died shortly after birth on Aug. 31, the singer and his wife said in a joint Instagram post on Sunday, Sept. 7.
The couple wrote that Della was born at 8:52 a.m. local time before she “peacefully” died at 9:12 a.m. She weighed 3 pounds, 3.5 ounces and was 13.5 inches when she was born.
“We are so thankful for the holy moments God gave us with her. The Lord has been so near and close to us during this difficult time. He has held us up and sustained us through it all,” the post read. “We are heartbroken and soul tired, but we know we will get through this difficult time with the strength, peace, and joy that only our Heavenly Father can provide. May Della be held in the arms of Jesus until we see her again someday. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
The couple’s Instagram post was met with supportive comments from fellow musicians and loved ones alike.
“I am so sorry. I love you and I’m praying for you all,” singer Jessie James Decker wrote. “No one should ever go through this kind of pain. I know your sweet girl will always be in your heart and watching over you.”
Country star Lauren Alaina commented, “My hearts aches for you. Sending so much love and prayer your way,” while RaeLynn wrote, “I am so sorry. Praying for you 3 😥 Jesus is near the broken hearted! Cover them Jesus.”
A representative for the couple confirmed to PEOPLE in May that they were expecting their second child together. They are also parents to 2-year-old son William Hawk.
White is a country singer from Hokes Bluff, Alabama “whose foot-stomping live shows often feature freestyled lyrics,” according to AllMusic. His sound is described as a mix of country, blues, funk, rock & roll and reggae. White has released three albums since 2016 and several singles including “It Feels Good,” “Livin’ the Dream” and “Makin’ Me Look Good Again.”
