The missing man whose body was found near Provincetown Municipal Airport Sunday morning has been identified as Michael Matar, according to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office.
Matar was reported missing to Provincetown police on Aug. 22, sparking “an extensive search” involving multiple law enforcement agencies, Provincetown police said previously. Sometime Sunday morning, the Massachusetts State Police AirWing located his body near Hatches Harbor Trail in Provincetown and directed investigators on the ground to the location, State Police said previously.
The Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office is still investigating Matar’s death, but the preliminary inquiry has not identified anything suspicious about it, the district attorney’s office said Wednesday evening. Authorities will notify the public of any such developments in the case.
Matar’s friend Frankie Consolo mourned his death in a Facebook post on Sunday. Consolo recalled the fun they had had watching the Tonys award show together with friends.
“Seeing a performance with him was to watch two shows, he was so excited for the art, his whole body would become animated,” Consolo wrote of his friend.
Funeral arrangements for Matar will be announced at a later date, Consolo said. No further information about the circumstances surrounding Matar’s death has been released.
