Natural Resources committee mediates discussion on new wetlands ordinance

WESTFIELD — The Natural Resources Committee chaired by Kristen Mello with Dan Allie met by zoom on July 29 to consider the City Council motion to revisit the new Westfield wetlands protection ordinance. The third committee member, Nicholas Morganelli Jr., was absent.

Before the matter was addressed, Conservation Director Anna Meassick informed the committee that the Mass Ready Act had just closed public comment, and she said it contains “sweeping changes” to the Wetland Protection Act and Wetland Water Act. “The Act is changing,” she said.

During the discussion on the local ordinance, Rob Levesque of R. Levesque Associates, who had earlier turned in a petition from local businesses objecting to some of the new provisions to the City Council, said he had two main recommendations for the city.
