On Friday morning, law enforcement in Worcester, along with state and federal authorities, arrested a man sought by a warrant. He hid in an apartment attic crawl space only accessible by a tile located in the bathroom before his eventual arrest.
Police arrived at the apartment on Dorchester Street at about 9:52 a.m. to serve an arrest warrant for Jarrell Grayson, 32, on charges of armed robbery, assault and battery with a knife, kidnapping and strangulation, according to a Worcester Police Department press release.
A Worcester police detective saw Grayson on the apartment’s roof as he approached the building, and when the detective called out to him, Grayson climbed into the third-floor window.
Worcester police, who were joined by State Police and United States Marshalls, explained to residents of the third-floor apartment that they had an arrest warrant for Grayson and that they believed he was inside.
The residents denied Grayson was in the apartment and did not allow authorities inside. Residents demanded the police show a search warrant, which a detective got over the course of four hours.
A crisis negotiation team was used to try to get in communication with Grayson. After residents refused to open the door once the search warrant was granted, a SWAT team forced their way into the apartment.
Once inside the apartment, police found Grayson hiding in an attic crawl space only accessible through a tile in the bathroom, according to the news release. He was placed under arrest for two outstanding warrants.
Police also arrested T’Marie Johnson, 29, on charges of accessory after the fact, resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer. Authorities said he went into a room with a barking dog and refused to leave after the SWAT team entered the apartment.
