SPRINGFIELD — After years of getting requests from residents who want to buy a second trash barrel, the City Council has finally OK’d it.
Residents currently pay $90 a year for a 95-gallon trash barrel that the city’s Department of Public Works collects once a week. If people have overflow, they can put out extra bags, as long as they attach a $2 city trash sticker on it, said Christopher Cignoli, public works director.
Allowing the purchase of an extra barrel will meet the needs of many residents, and it will make it easier on the city and the refuse collectors, he said.
