UMass student from Granby killed in shooting in DC

SPRINGFIELD — A University of Massachusetts Amherst student from Western Massachusetts who was interning in Washington, D.C., was slain by gunfire Monday, and police say he was not the intended target.

Police identified the victim Wednesday as Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, 21, of Granby.

City police responded to gunfire at about 10:28 p.m. Monday near 1200 7th St. NW, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
