The losing streak is over for Worcester.
Nine innings of action weren’t enough to declare a winner between the Red Sox and RailRiders on Saturday night.
But it didn’t take long to change that previous outcome, as Kristian Campbell countered with a two-run single in the top of the 10th inning to lead Worcester to an eventual 5-3 win against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at PNC Field.
Complete game statistics can be found here.
Red Sox starting pitcher Cooper Criswell allowed two earned runs, two walks, five hits, and struck out three over five innings of work.
And that was essential since Worcester’s bullpen responded with five innings of one unearned run relief to ensure they improved to 42-37.
Isaiah Campbell, meanwhile, earned his fifth season win as he only allowed one unearned run, two outs, and struck out one between the ninth and tenth innings of action.
Vaughn Grissom connected for his seventh season home run during the top of the second inning to help the Red Sox even the score at 1-1. The blast traveled 389 feet to left-center field.
The score didn’t remain that way for long, though, as Jorbit Vivas earned an infield single to score Andrew Velazquez and momentarily move Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead through two innings.
But just as soon as one team moved ahead, that advantage was relinquished, especially since Blaze Jordan connected on a 3-1 pitch for his third home run to even the game at 2-2 with no outs in the top of the fourth inning.
Nathan Hickey (2-for-5), Grissom (2-for-5), and Jordan (2-for-4) recorded six of Worcester’s 10 combined hits during its first win in five games.
After five consecutive scoreless innings, CJ Alexander singled home Spencer Jones to help the RailRiders make it a two-possession game in the bottom of the tenth inning. But it wasn’t enough, as Velazquez ended the game with an infield groundout to shortstop.
Worcester and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will complete its six-game series against each other on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
