Nate Eaton powers Worcester Red Sox to eighth consecutive win

Nate Eaton’s strong day at the plate played a key in establishing Worcester’s winning position on Tuesday.

He provided a two-run home run in the midst of the WooSox’ four-run burst to open the third. Worcester did not look back and defeated the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, 9-1.

Worcester (35-28) will face Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Jun. 12 in the second game of a six-game series with the Iron Pigs, with the first pitch set for 6:45 p.m. ET.

Eaton’s two-out sac fly in the opening frame put the WooSox in front early, but a solo home run from Buddy Kennedy leveled the score for the Iron Pigs.

But this would be the lone run for the hosts as Vaughn Grissom soon returned the lead to Worcester in the third, hitting into a fielder’s choice that drove in a run.

After Eaton connected with his sixth home run of the year to center field, Nathan Hickey added to the lead with an RBI double to drive in Blaze Jordan.

Tyler McDonough added a solo home run in the fifth to Worcester’s books, his third home run of the season. Jordan drove in an RBI single in the seventh. Trayce Thompson then hit into a double play with the bases loaded, but with no outs in the inning, the runner from third came around to score.

Isaac Coffey earns his first win of the season, pitching five innings and striking out four batters while allowing just one run, one walk and one hit.
