Marcelo Mayer not in Red Sox lineup vs. Yankees lefty day after 1st MLB homer

NEW YORK — Rookie Marcelo Mayer is not in Boston’s lineup Saturday against a left-handed starting pitcher.

The Red Sox and Yankees will play the second game of their three-game series at 7:35 p.m. here at Yankee Stadium. It will be aired nationally on FOX.

Lefty Garrett Crochet (5-4, 1.98 ERA) will start for Boston opposite left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (3-0, 2.83 ERA).

Mayer, a left-handed hitter, belted his first big league home run here Friday, a 410-foot blast to right-center field. He’s 1-for-6 with three strikeouts against lefties since Boston promoted him May 24. He has started just one game against a lefty, his MLB debut.

Abraham Toro will play third base. Trevor Story is at shortstop. Romy Gonzalez will play first base.

Kristian Campbell is back in the lineup at second base after not starting Friday.

Former Red Sox Pablo Reyes is in the Yankees lineup playing third base and batting eighth.
