BOSTON — As one regular returned to the Red Sox lineup Saturday afternoon, another was scratched for undisclosed reasons two hours before first pitch.
Alex Verdugo was originally hitting sixth and starting in right field against the Blue Jays but the Red Sox announced a revised lineup with Adam Duvall getting the start shortly after 2 p.m. ET. Duvall is hitting fifth. Designated hitter Justin Turner, who has missed the last three games with a heel bruise he suffered Monday in Seattle, is back, hitting third against righty José Berríos.
Manager Alex Cora said Turner will mostly start at DH in the coming days as he gets back to 100%. That means everyday playing time for Triston Casas at first base and new acquisition Luis Urías at second base. After making his Sox debut Friday, Urías is hitting seventh Saturday afternoon.
Righty reliever John Schreiber is the opener for the Red Sox, making his second start of the season. Left-hander Chris Murphy is expected to be the bulk reliever behind him, according to Cora, though there’s a chance the Red Sox pivot to righty Nick Pivetta, who threw 7 ⅓ innings in an impressive start Monday against the Mariners.
First pitch is at 4:10 p.m. ET.
