Alyssa Thomas honored by Basketball HOF after making WNBA history with Connecticut Sun

To say Alyssa Thomas has been having an unreal year for the Connecticut Sun would be an understatement, and she was honored by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame for making WNBA history earlier this year.

The Hall now features Thomas’ game-worn Connecticut Sun jersey and sneakers from June 25 when Thomas became the WNBA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles. The forward posted 14 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds in the Sun’s win over the Chicago Sky to put her name in the history books.

Thomas has been a big reason for Connecticut’s success this season and continued to make history on Tuesday night. She recorded another triple-double for the second consecutive game. It’s the third time she’s gone back-to-back in her career and the WNBA’s first triple-double that had at least 20 points, 20 assists and 10 assists.

The 31-year-old finished the Sun’s win over the Minnesota Lynx with 21 points, 20 rebounds and 12 assists.

Thomas also became Connecticut’s assists leader last month when she passed Jasmine Thomas in a loss to the Phoenix Mercury, and was named the WNBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Month for June. During that stretch, Thomas set the franchise record for most assists in a game (16) as well as became the team’s leader in made free throws (693).

Five of Thomas’ nine-career-triple-doubles have come this season, and she’ll look to continue her historic run when the Sun take on the Indiana Fever on the road on Friday.
