Monday night’s episode of “American Idol” whittled down this season’s competitors once again, shrinking the Top 12 down to the Top 10 — and sending home a platinum ticket winner in the process.
Ché Chesterman and Filo were eliminated during the special episode, which was dedicated to honoring iconic moments from the show’s 23-season history. Chesterman performed the Robyn song “Dancing On My Own,” while Filo — whom the judges awarded one of the season’s coveted platinum tickets during auditions — performed the “Dreamgirls” tune “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” most notably performed by former “Idol” contender Jennifer Hudson.
The contestants who will advance are John Foster, Josh King, Jamal Roberts, Mattie Pruitt, Thunderstorm Artis, Slater Nalley, Gabby Samone, Canaan James Hill, Kolbi Jordan and Breanna Nix.
Much like the prior evening’s episode — which saw the departure of Amanda Barise and Desmond Roberts — voting only lasted the duration of Monday’s show. Ryan Seacrest revealed the results at the end of the episode, sending home Filo and Chesterman based on roughly 22 million votes.
The Top 10 contestants will face off again this Sunday night during a “Ladies’ Night”-themed episode.
