The Bruins came out of the first period on Saturday’s game in Detroit, down by a goal and on the short end of two fights.
Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat, who is listed at 5-foot-8, 180 pounds picked a fight with Andrew Peeke.
The Bruins defenseman had just 10 penalty minutes all season and no fight, but at 6-foot-3, 214 pounds, he had a considerable size advantage on DeBrincat.
The Red Wings forward effectively used his diminutivity to duck under several punches before wrestling Peeke to the ice.
Less than a minute later, Austin Watson, who celebrating a week in the NHL, squared off with Jakub Lauko in a similarly mismatched bout.
But in this one, Goliath roughed up David pretty decisively. The 6-foot-4, 238-pound Watson pummelled, 6-foot-1, 194-pound Lauko, who lost his helmet in the fight.
Watson was assessed a 10-minute misconduct in addition to the matching fight calls.
