3 rescued from rough waters off Mayflower Beach Thursday

Three women were rescued Thursday from nearly drowning at Mayflower Beach, according to the Dennis Police Department.

Thursday at around 2:58 p.m., three women — ages 45, 15 and 11 — were said to be in distress when the 11-year-old “waved for help from the water,” said a Facebook post from the department. Three lifeguards with two rescue boards “immediately went into the water” and loaded all three women onto the boards, and brought them back to shore.

Two of the women “needed immediate lifesaving treatment which was started by Dennis Beach Department staff members and aided by civilian medical professionals and others on the beach who came forward to help,” police said.

All the women were taken to Cape Cod Hospital to be treated, said the Facebook post. A Dennis police detective interviewed two of the three women and said they were able to determine that “the three had been swimming and gotten to a point where they couldn’t get back to shore.”

Mayflower Beach reportedly had “strong off shore wind” and “higher than normal surf conditions” Thursday, police said.

All three women were conscious and alert when the detective left Cape Cod Hospital, and as of Friday afternoon, the department said it had not received any further updates on their medical conditions.
