After rainy Monday, Mass. to see mild, above-normal conditions for much of week

A slow-moving cold front is bringing a period of heavy rain to New England Monday morning, which is expected to last for much of the day.

Little relief is expected to arrive Monday, though National Weather Service forecasters say the western half of Southern New England could see conditions improve as the front moves east.

The rain should subside by Tuesday, though, giving way to dry and mild conditions for most of the work week. Above-normal temperatures are expected to continue until Friday.

Rain is likely to return Thursday night, the result of an area of low pressure moving into the northeast, bringing with it a cold front. The precipitation caused by that system is expected to be “notably lower” than conditions from earlier in the week, according to forecasters.

The cold front, combined with increased moisture, will bring rain to most of southern New England Thursday night into Friday morning. But some parts of the Berkshires could see precipitation fall as snow.

Conditions should dry out as the day goes on Friday, with low temperatures dipping into the 40s. Temperatures are expected to rebound into the mid-50s on Saturday.
