Missing man’s car pulled from Connecticut River in Chicopee

A missing man’s car was pulled from the Connecticut River in Chicopee unoccupied after an hours-long recovery effort, police said.

At around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Chicopee police received a call reporting a man in the Connecticut River off Walter Street. Responding officers could not find anyone in the river and called for the department’s Drone Unit and Under Water Response Team. After several hours of searching, the department called off the effort, police said in a statement posted to Facebook.

Then, at around 10:30 a.m., officers and detectives returned to the scene and found signs of a possible car crash at the end of Walter Street. Police found evidence that led them to believe a vehicle may have driven into the Connecticut River.
