Police groups settle lawsuit with Mass. police oversight board

The Massachusetts police oversight commission has settled a lawsuit brought by leading police organizations, accusing the board of violating state transparency laws and challenging part of its process for certifying officers.

The lawsuit argued that the Peace Officer Standards and Training, or POST, Commission had “conducted most of its critical work in secret,” violating the state’s Open Meeting Law, which governs how public bodies meet and make decisions.
