Dontavia Waggoner leads Boston College women’s basketball past Syracuse

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women’s basketball dominated Syracuse in a 92-51 win on Sunday afternoon in Conte Forum.

The Eagles win back-to-back ACC games for the first time this season, improving to 12-8 and 3-4 in the league. Syracuse falls to 7-11 and 1-6 in the conference.

Four players scored in double figures, with Dontavia Waggoner registering a game-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting with five rebounds and five steals. Teya Sidberry carded 21 points and tied a personal best with 13 rebounds.

T’yana Todd continued her hot shooting with 16 points, hitting four of her six field goals from deep. Andrea Daley rounded out the leading scorers with 11. Kaylah Ivey dished out 10 assists with nine points.

Daley and Sidberry set the tone early scoring the first eight points of the game to take a commanding 8-0 lead. BC soared to a 23-4 start with 3:33 left in the period, hitting eight of its first 12 shot attempts. The Eagles went into the second period with a 32-9 advantage, while limiting the Orange to just 3-of-14 shooting from the field.

The Eagles continued their hot stretch in the second period, extending the lead to 29 following an Ivey trifecta. BC went into the half with a 27-point cushion. Sidberry scored 12 of her points in the first to pace the offense, and all five starters scored at least six points.

BC didn’t let up in the second half, scoring the first 10 points in the third to push the lead to over 30. The Eagles cruised the rest of the way, stretching their lead to as much as 44 in the final frame. Boston College snapped a four-game skid in the series against Syracuse.

The Eagles controlled the paint with a 46-19 showing, hit 10 treys and held Syracuse to under 30 percent shooting.

BC returns to action on Thursday to host No. 3 Notre Dame on Thursday at 7 p.m.
