Man wanted for murder in Brazil arrested in Massachusetts

A Brazilian national was arrested in Fall River on New Year’s Eve by federal immigration officials who say he was wanted for murder in the South American country.

The man, whose name was not released, entered the United States in New York in March 2024, but violated the terms of his admission by failing to leave the country, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement. A warrant charging the man with murder was issued by officials in Minas Gerais, Brazil in June 2024.

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers arrested the man near his residence on Dec. 31. He will remain in custody pending removal proceedings, the agency said.

“ERO Boston will not allow Fall River or any other Massachusetts community to become a safe haven for international fugitives, and we are committed to tracking down accused criminals who put our residents at risk,” said ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde in the statement.
