The Red Sox spent part of this past week beginning a dialogue with representatives for pitcher Garrett Crochet, with an aim of getting Crochet contractually extended beyond 2026.
That’s an encouraging sign, and a path the Red Sox should absolutely take. It would make no sense for the Red Sox to surrender four prospects — as they did last month, including two in their Top 10 — for Crochet and then have him exit free agency after just two seasons. To “win” the trade, the Red Sox have to ensure that they get far more than two seasons from the lefty.
