An award-winning bagel spot that specializes in fresh-out-the oven bagels and unique schmears has found a new home in Massachusetts.
PopUp Bagels opened its first location at 70 Pier 4 Blvd in Boston on Friday, Jan. 10.
The new 770-square-foot shop offers the same bagels and schmears that PopUp Bagels has sold at its other locations in New York, Connecticut and at seasonal pop-ups.
Customers can choose from everything, sesame, salt, plain or poppy seed bagels while schmears include plain cream cheese, scallion cream cheese, salted butter and caramelized onion cream cheese.
The Boston location will exclusively sell PopUp Bagel’s TikTok famous Grillo’s Pickles Pickle de Gallo schmear as well.
Every bagel is baked fresh and served hot, whole and straight from the oven. PopUp Bagels does not slice its bagels or make sandwiches with them, thus adopting the catchphrase “The bagel as it should be,” according to the chain’s website. Visitors are intended to rip and dip their bagels or take them home to eat however they want.
“PopUp Bagels brings something completely new to Boston,” Brian Harrington, owner and operator of the Seaport location, said in a press release. “These bagels are about more than just great taste — they’re a whole new way to enjoy a classic. I’m excited to see how Boston embraces it.”
Adam Goldberg founded PopUp Bagels in his kitchen during the COVID-19 pandemic and the chain has since evolved into a culinary phenomenon.
PopUp Bagels has won Brooklyn’s BagelFest Best Bagel award two years in a row and been recognized as one of the best bagels in NYC by The New York Times.
“Expanding to Boston is an exciting step for us,” Goldberg said in the press release. “This is a city with such a rich food culture and a strong sense of community, and we’re thrilled to bring something new to the table. Boston is not just another city for us — it’s the beginning of a new chapter as we continue to grow.”
The Boston PopUp Bagels is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Bagels can be ordered in line, ahead of time or for catering.
