A passenger on a flight leaving Boston Logan International Airport Tuesday evening was arrested after opening an aircraft door shortly before it was about to take off, Massachusetts State Police said.
The passenger’s identity was not disclosed by State Police.
At around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, State Police troopers responded to a flight leaving the airport. Just before take-off, a passenger who wanted to exit the plane opened a door “suddenly and without warning,” State Police said in a statement.
When they did so, they triggered the plane’s emergency slide, WCVB reported, citing the Massachusetts Port Authority. The passenger was aboard JetBlue Flight 161 to San Juan, Puerto Rico, the station reported.
Other passengers aboard the plane restrained the passenger until State Police troopers arrived to detain them for questioning.
The passenger is expected to be arraigned on criminal charges in Boston Municipal Court in East Boston on Wednesday. The exact charges they were facing was not immediately clear.
The incident is believed to be isolated and State Police say there is no threat to public safety.
