Town’s home-rule petition to have Conservation Commission members elected fails to pass state Senate

SOUTHWICK – Of the over 140 bills that Gov. Maura Healey signed into law last week, the town’s home-rule petition requesting amending state law related to Conservation Commission members being elected instead of appointed, wasn’t included after it failed in the state Senate.

“If a bill did not get to the Governor’s desk by December 31st it did not pass last session and needs to be refiled in the new session we are now in,” said state Sen. Paul Mark (D-Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin and Hampshire) when asked about the status of the bill.

Mark also said he would “refile it again,” with Southwick state Rep. Nicolas Boldyga (R-Southwick) if the “town wants us to.”
