Where MLB insider expects potential Red Sox target to sign this offseason

Teoscar Hernández has expressed interest in wanting to remain with the Los Angeles Dodgers after spending the 2024 season with the World Series champions. And while The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported the two sides were “at an impasse” over a contract, he ultimately believes they’ll find common ground.

“I still expect them to sign Teoscar Hernández. This is seemingly the dance the two sides are going through,” the MLB insider said on “Fair Territory” on Monday. “It’s taking much longer than it should have. Teoscar wants to be back, the Dodgers want him back. I’m not exactly sure what the problem is.”

Hernández is reportedly looking to land a “three-year deal between $66 million and $72 million.”

Hernández has drawn interest from other teams including the Boston Red Sox, who had serious interest in the slugger last year, as well. At one point it was believed Hernández was atop the Red Sox’ list if Juan Soto signed elsewhere. He signed with the New York Mets earlier this month.

During an appearance on the “Flippin’ Bats” podcast in February, Hernández revealed it was between the Dodgers and the Red Sox before he ultimately signed a one-year, $23.5 million deal with Los Angeles.

“We were trying to get more years in Boston. The only years that they offered was two,” he said. “Like I said, the best opportunity and the best chance that I had to get a good deal was the Dodgers. … I cannot lie about it. I was really excited because they were showing a lot of interest. But they didn’t come with a good deal, so I had to decide to go somewhere else.”

While the Red Sox have been linked to the outfielder, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported that it didn’t sound if as they’d “intensified their efforts” to sign Hernández.
