Former Red Sox pitcher moved to bullpen after getting lit up by Yankees, may be tipping pitches (report)

Connor Seabold is reportedly moving to the bullpen after a rough outing against a familiar foe.

According to the Denver Post, the Colorado Rockies are moving the former Boston Red Sox starting pitcher to a relief role after a rough run this season. Seabold has gone 1-7 with a 7.18 ERA this season in 20 games, including 13 starts. Seabold’s ERA in games he started was 7.63.

The last straw appeared to be his start last week against the New York Yankees. Seabold lasted just 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on six hits and two walks. The Denver Post reports that Colorado will bring up Peter Lambert from Triple-A Albuquerque to make the start Friday while Seabold will go to the bullpen.

“I don’t know if they’re seeing something that we’re not seeing and they’re taking good hacks off me. The way I pitched the last two outings, my luck should’ve been better,” Seabold said after the start, via MLB.com.

According to the Denver Post, manager Bud Black said the Rockies are looking at game film to see if Seabold is tipping pitches or if there is an issue with his mechanics.

Seabold started the 2023 season in the bullpen, making his first seven appearances as a reliever. However, injuries forced him into the starting rotation at the start of May.

Back in January, the Red Sox traded Seabold to the Rockies after initially designating him for assignment. They received cash and a player to be named later in exchange for the righty.

Seabold spent limited time in Boston, making six starts across the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He spent most of his time at Triple-A Worcester, starting 13 games there in 2021 and 19 games in 2022.

Seabold was selected in the third round of the 2017 MLB Drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies before being dealt to the Red Sox as part of a 2020 trade that also sent Nick Pivetta to Boston.
