A Massachusetts State Police trooper was taken to a hospital after a 32-year-old man driving drunkenly rear-ended their cruiser on Storrow Drive in Boston, police said.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Monday, a 2013 Acura SUV collided with a State Police Cruiser on Storrow Drive near Kenmore Square in Boston, said Tim McGuirk, a spokesman for State Police, in a statement. Both the Acura and the cruiser were significantly damaged.
After the crash, the trooper was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement.
Police arrested the driver of the Acura, who was identified as Melvin Lopez, 32, of Chelsea. Lopez faces several charges, including operating under the influence of alcohol, State Police said.
Lopez is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court Tuesday morning.
