Southwick using Green Communities grant for two energy-efficiency projects

SOUTHWICK – After the town was designated a Green Community and became eligible to apply for energy efficiency grants, it decided to use its allocation of $146,220 to upgrade its streetlights and reduce electricity costs at the Fire Department with new technology.

“The Green Communities grant is extremely important to us and the commonwealth to reduce our energy needs, lower emissions and conserve our natural resources. We’re doing our part to combat climate change,” said the town’s Chief Administrative Officer Nicole Parker about the grant from the state’s Department of Energy Resources Green Communities Division.

Last August, after a five-year effort to meet the criteria needed to be designated a Green Community the town was officially recognized by the state for its energy efficiency efforts.
