The daughter of U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark, D-5th District, was one of several people arrested Saturday during an anti-abortion march in Boston where participants clashed with counter-protesters, according to a published report.
Riley Dowell, 24, was arraigned Monday on charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with lawful assembly, The Boston Herald reported, citing Boston Police.
Dowell was previously arrested in January 2023, and pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and vandalizing a historic monument, the newspaper reported.
In a statement to the Herald, Clark, the No. 2 Democrat in the U.S. House, told the newspaper that “every American has the right to protest and stand up for their beliefs, but they must do so responsibly and peacefully.”
Protesters were seen on the Boston Common where multiple arrests were made, according to WCVB-TV.
Barricades were set up around Parkman Bandstand on the Common by the time protesters had arrived, MassLive previously reported.
At least nine people were arrested during the protest and counter-protest, which started around 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Boston Police told The Boston Globe that at least five counter-protesters were arrested for assault on a police officer by around noon on Saturday.
