Five people were injured, including two people who had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter, in a fiery crash in Harwich Monday night.
Around 10:48 p.m., a car had driven off the road near Queen Anne Road and Rebecca Road. The car had gone through the guardrail and caught fire.
By the time the police department arrived, four of the passengers were able to escape the car. Harwich police officers used a fire extinguisher to knock down the fire and get the last person out of the car.
But the fire started back up again. By the time the fire department arrived, the car was engulfed.
The fire department was able to put out the fire to the car and the small brush fire.
Three additional ambulances were requested. Three of the people involved had non-life-threatening injures. Two of the people had life threatening injuries and were taken by Med Flight helicopters to Mass General Hospital.
The crash is under investigation by the Harwich Police Department.
