A massive, nine-alarm fire erupted in a warehouse building in Chelsea early Monday morning, forcing officials in the city to cancel school at its four elementary schools.
The fire began just after midnight at 1 Forbes St., according to WCVB.
Chelsea Public Schools Superintendent Almi G. Abeyta said the fire has “led to restricted access to the school campus, and our primary concern is the safety of our students, staff, and families.” As a result, Abeyta canceled school at the Sokolowski, Hooks, Kelly and Berkowitz schools.
All other Chelsea Public Schools will stay open on Monday.
Photos and videos from the scene of the fire show flames shooting out of the roof and illuminating the early morning sky a bright orange.
