‘Much needed’ rain coming to Mass. this week amid widespread drought

After weeks of dry conditions that have led to high fire danger across Massachusetts, forecasters say there is a chance the Bay State receives some much-needed, widespread rainfall later this week.

The rain is expected to begin Wednesday night and linger through Thursday night and Friday, potentially bringing relief to the much-needed in the state.

At this point, National Weather Service forecasters say their confidence is “fairly high” that southern New England will see between half an inch and 1 inch of rain, with the potential for more.

The precipitation could turn to snow in some of the highest elevations of the state, like The Berkshires, forecasters said.

“Snowfall will be highly elevation-dependent but some [accumulations] are certainly possible,” they wrote.
