WESTFIELD – Approximately 100 people attended the flag retirement ceremony at the Westfield Sportsman’s Club on Nov. 10 to dedicate the pyre built by Eagle Scout candidate Brandon Cekovsky to retire old, faded and tattered American flags with honor.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
