Both Red Sox finalists denied Silver Slugger awards

Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers and outfielder Jarren Duran were both finalists for AL Silver Slugger awards but neither won.

Guardians’ José Ramírez won for AL third basemen. Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Juan Soto as well as Orioles’ Anthony Santander were the three AL outfield winners.

Duran, who was a finalist for the first time, led the majors in doubles with 48. He also tied with Arizona’s Corbin Carroll for the major league lead in triples (14).

He batted .285 with a .342 on-base percentage, .492 slugging percentage, .834 OPS, 21 home runs, 111 runs, 75 RBIs, 54 strikeouts and 160 strikeouts while leading all major leaguers in plate appearances (735) and at-bats (671).

He was successful on 34-of-41 stolen base attempts and finished in the 96th percentile in sprint speed.

He owned the fifth best fWAR (6.7) in the AL behind only Judge (11.2), Royals’ Bobby Witt (10.4), Soto (8.1) and Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson (8.0).

Devers, a two-time winner at third base, saw his stats drop dramatically during the final two months in part because of a shoulder injury.

He batted .272 with a .354 on-base percentage, .516 slugging percentage, .871 OPS, 28 homers, 34 doubles, five triples, 83 RBIs, 87 runs, 67 walks and 147 strikeouts in his first 138 games (601 plate appearances). But he posted a .205/.295/.329/.624 line in his final 42 games. He had just three extra-base hits in his final 28 games dating back to Aug. 18.

Former Red Sox star Mookie Betts received his seventh Silver Slugger.
