All three North Shore school districts that closed Tuesday due to teachers unions strikes remained closed Wednesday as school administrators and unions struggled to reach agreements for new educator contracts.
Schools in all three districts had Monday off due to Veteran’s Day, so students in Gloucester and Beverly are experiencing their third cancelled day of school, while students in Marblehead are experiencing their second cancelled school day.
The Union of Gloucester Educators (UGE) and Beverly Teachers Association (BTA) voted to go on strike Thursday afternoon, shuttering schools in both communities on Friday. On Friday, the Marblehead Education Association’s (MEA) members voted to join them in striking starting Tuesday.
