Chicopee business owner proposes 61-unit affordable housing complex

CHICOPEE — The owner of an assisted living complex is planning a second project on a brownfield — this time to create affordable housing.

David Spada, who developed River Mills Assisted Living on the former Facemate Factory site off West Main Street, is now planning a $20 million apartment complex next to it off Fisk Drive and along the Chicopee River.

“I’m trying to clean up the brownfield, and this meets the aims and goals of the city,” Spada said.
