Southwick officials find enforcement of short-term rental bylaw challenging

SOUTHWICK — After several homeowners complained about short-term rentals in their neighborhood during the Select Board meeting on Monday, the town’s Building and Health departments said this week they are working on enforcement of the bylaw regulating rentals.

There’s one big challenge: Finding where these vacation rentals, which can be ordinary houses listed on services like Airbnb and VRBO, are.

“If we can’t identify those rentals, it’s a ‘Where’s Waldo’ situation,” said Kyle Scott, the town’s zoning enforcement officer, who is responsible for implementing the bylaw adopted by Town Meeting in May 2023.
