Bruins pull star goalie after giving up 6 goals to Hurricanes

It was a rough Thursday for Jeremy Swayman.

The Bruins goalie was pulled and replaced with Joonas Korpisalo halfway through the second period of Boston’s game against the Hurricanes after he gave up six goals on 22 shots. Of the six goals Swayman gave up, three were on Carolina’s power play.

Boston had just six shots through 30 minutes of play before coach Jim Montgomery made the switch in net.

Korpisalo is coming off a strong start despite the Bruins’ loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday when he stopped 17 of 18 shots.

It’s been a rough start to the season for the Bruins, and that continued at Lenovo Center when the Hurricanes scored three goals — two on the man-advantage — on the power play in the first period.

Going into Thursday night’s matchup, Swayman was 3-3-1 with a 2.97 goals-against average and .900 save percentage.
