A professional boxer from Ireland has given his stamp of approval to an Irish bakery and deli in Boston — one that he has routinely visited.
Tommy Hyde — who is a professional boxer from Cork, Ireland, according to his Facebook — posted a TikTok of him trying food from Greenhills Bakery and Adams Village Deli in Dorchester.
Hyde competed at CES Boxing “Halloween Knockout” at Oceanside Events Center in Revere on Friday, Oct. 25, according to several Instagram posts from CES Boxing and Hyde.
He then stayed in Boston for a few days after the fight and made it his mission to try as much food in the city as he could before heading back home to Ireland.
“Today I’ve got the breakfast of champions,” Hyde said in the TikTok, after ordering an Irish breakfast sandwich, sausage rolls and chicken curry jam buns from the establishments.
“I‘m going to start with the chicken curry jam bun because I’ve never had one, and I’m intrigued to see what this is like,” Hyde said while holding a bun in the video.
After taking a bite, the boxer exclaimed, “That is unbelievable,” adding that the bun was “unreal.”
Hyde then moved onto the breakfast sandwich, which he has previously driven two hours to get.
The boxer used to train in Springfield and would travel to Boston every Saturday just to get a sandwich from Greenhills.
“Now that’s dedication for a good roll,” Hyde said in the TikTok, which has gotten more than 147,000 views as of Tuesday evening.
“I know what this is going to be like because every time I get it, it never, never, ever disappoints,” he said.
Hyde then took a massive bite of the sandwich, which he said reminds him of the food he gets at home.
“When I‘m in training camp and you can’t eat this kind of stuff. I miss it,” Hyde said. “So, I’ll enjoy it.”
The boxer then tried the Boston sausage rolls for the first time and was once again impressed.
“It’s lovely,” Hyde said after taking a bite. “Small sausage but it’s a lovely roll.”
Greenhills Bakery is “a full-service bakery specializing in traditional and creative baked goods,” according to the bakery’s website. The menu features traditional Irish breads, scones, pastries and rolls.
Meanwhile Adams Village Deli is described as serving “classic and exotic meats carved in-house,” according to Google.
Hyde’s eating escapades not only brought him to Greenhills Bakery and Adams Village Deli. The boxer also posted TikToks of him trying clam chowder and lobster roll from Boston Sail Loft and cannolis from Modern Pastry in the North End.
“The food in Boston is unreal,” Hyde proclaimed in one of the videos.
