Future Hall-of-Famer impressed with Drake Maye’s development

FOXBOROUGH — After the Patriots24-3 loss to the Jets on Sept. 24 in New Jersey, rookie quarterback Drake Maye waited around after the game to meet, Aaron Rodgers, who he grew up idolizing.

Maye had played just a few series of mop-up time that day in his NFL debut. He’s the Patriots starter now and was off to a good start on Sunday before a first quarter hit put the New England QB in concussion protocol.

Jacoby Brissett relieved Maye and had his best game of the season as the Patriots rallied to win 25-22 in a back-and-forth game.

Rodgers has kept track of Maye since their encounter just over a month ago.

“I think he was doing a nice job on his feet. He’s obviously super athletic,” Rodgers said. “He made a nice run for a touchdown. I don’t know what happened to him. But he’s been playing good the last couple weeks. It’s tough on a rookie quarterback coming in, but it seems like he’s getting more comfortable.”
