Here’s why Massachusetts residents might smell smoke Monday morning

As wildfires continue, some Massachusetts residents might be waking up to the smell of smoke on Monday.

Numerous wildfires broke out over the weekend, the National Weather Service said. The largest one is more than 100 acres in Salem.

The smoke from these fires are being “trapped” near the ground due to a “surface inversion,” the weather service explained. This means the smell will also linger.
