10 MBTA employees at Cabot Yard on leave amid criminal investigation, reports say

Nearly a dozen employees working at the MBTA’s Cabot Yard maintenance facility are on administrative leave during an investigation into accusations that they worked on private vehicles during work hours, according to multiple reports.

MBTA General Manager Philip Eng told The Boston Globe, “it appears they were doing something that they should not have been doing on MBTA property or MBTA time.”

“As public servants, we have an obligation to do the duties that we’ve accepted in the roles,” Eng told the paper. “These employees, it appears, were not doing that.”

A spokesman for the MBTA did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation of Eng’s comments sent Friday morning.

The investigation is concentrated on the MBTA’s Cabot Yard maintenance facility in South Boston, WCVB-TV reported. The transit agency “stores and maintains” Red Line cars at the facility, according to its official website.

“Any findings from this investigation will be addressed appropriately and in alignment with our core values,” Eng told WCVB.
