Climate Matters: Ten words explain science around climate change (Commentary)

Yes, climate change is a complex and complicated issue that finds itself right at the intersection of science, engineering, technology, economics, politics, and social-environmental justice. Climate change is also a so-called “wicked” global issue that has no simple solutions, a multitude of stakeholders with often conflicting agendas, and — perhaps most importantly — lacks objective measures of success: how and when can we decide that climate change has been solved and declare victory? And: Who are “we” in this context?

That being said, I will simplify all the complexities, nuances, and controversies associated with climate change into 10 simple words: It’s real. It’s us. It’s bad. Scientists agree. There’s hope.

To the best of my knowledge, the use of these particular 10 words to summarize climate change originated from the work of Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.
