NFL trade rumors: Chiefs landing star WR Patriots once pined for (reports)

The reigning Super Bowl champs are getting some much-needed help at wide receiver, and it‘s comes in the form of one of the league’s best at the position.

Wednesday morning, multiple reports emerged that the Kansas City Chiefs were finalizing a trade to acquire Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Hopkins should be a familiar name for Patriots fans. New England tried like crazy to sign the veteran receiver in free agency last offseason, only to lose out to Tennessee.

The former All-Pro reportedly comes at a low price. The Chiefs are giving up a conditional fifth-round draft pick that can turn into a fourth-round pick, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

The reported acquisition of Hopkins gives Kansas City some much-needed help at the receiver position. The Chiefs have lost receiver Hollywood Brown, Rashee Rice and JuJu Smith-Schuster to injuries.

Meahwhile, the Titans have been floundering this season, starting the season 1-5. During that time, Hopkins has caught 15 passes for 173 yards and 1 touchdown.

The 32-year-old Hopkins is on the older side for a receiver — but is also one of the league’s most accomplished players at the position. Hopkins is a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro selection.

Hopkins spent seven seasons with the Texans and three seasons with the Cardinals before landing with the Titans in free agency in 2023. The Patriots were reported to be in the free agency hunt for Hopkins that year, bringing him in for a visit.
