Celtics sign former Springfield Central, Iowa State forward to contract

The Celtics are nearing the start of the regular season, but they still have some housekeeping to take care of before then — and it includes a familiar local name. The C’s have signed forward Hason Ward, the Springfield Central product, to an Exhibit 10 contract, per his agency.

Ward now gets a chance to stick within the Celtics organization going forward. Ward signed with the Kings for the NBA’s Summer League. Ward, 24, spent five seasons in college with his first three years at VCU then his final two seasons at Iowa State. He helped the Cyclones to a Sweet 16 berth last year as a bench player.

Ward will likely be waived by the Celtics after signing the Exhibit 10 contract. But the team will then retain his G League rights, allowing him to play with the Maine Celtics this season. Ward went undrafted in 2024 as the local product now gets to stay in the New England area.

In his senior season at Iowa State, Ward played in 28 games (three starts), averaging 15.8 minutes per game for the Cyclones. He put up averages of 6.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game, shooting 62.8% from the field.
