Celtics rival gets positive injury news for newly-acquired star

When newly-acquired star Paul George suffered a left knee injury Monday, 76ers fans held their collective breaths. The Sixers have been slowed down significantly by injuries in recent years, so to have the new guy hurt before the regular season starts would be a tough blow.

But for now, fortunately, George’s injury doesn‘t sound serious. The team released a statement Tuesday saying an MRI found that George suffered a bone bruise but there’s no structural damage. The forward will be re-evaluated in about one week, per the team.

Both George and 76ers coach Nick Nurse didn‘t sound concerned about the knee injury after the game Monday. George ended up playing in 12 minutes and scoring eight points before his exit. The Sixers open the season Oct. 23 against the Bucks at home, so it‘s unclear if George will be healthy enough to suit up then. But it at least doesn’t sound like George will miss significant time.

The Sixers are going to be managing injuries and their stars all season. Just recently, it came out that former MVP big man Joel Embiid likely won‘t play in both games of a back-to-back going forward. That‘s no surprise considering Embiid hasn’t been able to stay healthy over the course of a long regular season.

George signed a four-year deal with Philadelphia this offseason after he wasn’t able to come to terms with the Clippers. The Sixers have an interesting roster led by George, Embiid and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey. But health is the big question mark when it comes to a Philadelphia squad looking to advance past the second round of the playoffs.
