Antisemitic stickers seen on Harvard campus, Cambridge property near Hillel

Stickers of the Israeli flag featuring swastikas instead of the Star of David were seen placed around parts of Harvard Square.

The stickers were posted on Harvard University’s campus and on Cambridge city property, The Harvard Crimson reported. Text on the stickers read, “Stop Funding Israeli Terrorism.”

Police were notified at around 2:10 a.m. Monday that a person was placing the stickers on campus and on city-owned light poles in and around the Charles River area, a Harvard University police Public Information Officer Steven Catalano confirmed with MassLive.

Harvard University police searched the area for the person but did not find them, Catalano said.

“First we saw for a long stretch of time this was happening on social media, and then there were calls for escalation,” Harvard Hillel Executive Director Jason B. Rubenstein said to the Crimson. “Now, we’re seeing it happen physically — in a physical manifestation — just a few feet from the Hillel building.”

The stickers’ appearance comes days after “intimidating” posters were seen outside a Harvard building last week, the Crimson wrote. Hillel leaders found that the posters, critical of the war in Gaza, were printed by JStreetU at Hillel co-chair Meredith Zielonka. The posters were printed with Hillel’s own money.

Rubenstein suspended JStreetU and Zielonka from using the group’s funds, the Crimson wrote.

Cambridge and Harvard University police are investigating the stickers.
