Who experts have Patriots taking at/near top of early mock drafts

Could college football’s most exciting player be bound for New England?

Travis Hunter, Colorado’s dynamic cornerback/wide receiver is rising up draft boards. With the Patriots struggling and potentially positioned for another top pick, would they be interested in the two-way star? Several mock drafts had New England selecting him.

Here’s a look at who experts have the Patriots selecting:

The Pick: No. 3

The Selection: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, 6-foot-5, 212 pounds Arizona

The write-up:

“Jerod Mayo clearly doesn’t feel comfortable throwing Drake Maye into the fray with the Patriots’ current offensive setup. That has to change at some point, however, meaning Eliot Wolf will need to truly ratchet up his stated mission to “weaponize the offense.” The 6-5, 212-pound McMillan would provide Maye with a trusted target who can overpower defensive backs on jump balls and jumpstart the dormant downfield passing attack.”

The Pick: No. 3

The Selection: Travis Hunter WR/CB, Colorado, 6-foot-1, 185 lbs

The write-up: New England’s rebuild has its quarterback, Drake Maye, but still needs a bit of basically everything else. A quarter of the way through the college season, it’s impossible to say there’s been another player better than Hunter — and it might not be close.

A prospect who will make an impact on day one, on offense or defense, Hunter plays like a modern-day Charles Woodson — only with more offensive polish. A corner has never gone No. 1, and it’s been a long time since a WR landed in that top spot (1996). If ever there were a player to change those histories, though, it’s Hunter.”

The Pick: 3

The Selection: Will Campbell OT, LSU, 6-foot-6, 323 pounds

The write-up: “Part of the reason the Patriots supposedly won’t start Drake Maye is because of the offensive line and it’s not hard to see why they think that. The Pats have to overhaul the line, and it starts with a premium draft pick on a premium player. Campbell will be debated all offseason with Banks as the draft’s top offensive lineman. The Patriots will be happy with whoever is available when they pick.”

The Pick: 3

The Selection: Will Campbell OT, LSU, 6-foot-6, 323 pounds

The write-up: The Patriots’ offensive line struggles are the reason we haven’t seen quarterback Drake Maye yet. They’ll be heavily targeting offensive line help in the 2025 draft.

Campbell, a three-year starter at left tackle for LSU, could be the first off the board with his combination of agility and power.”

The Pick: No. 3

The Selection: Kelvin Banks, OT, Texas, 6-foot-4, 320 pounds

The write-up:

“Banks might not have ideal left tackle height (6-foot-4), but he has the length to help him win against edge rushers. He can move people in the run game, something that will translate into any landing spot (or final position if a team sees him better on the right side or even inside). Banks would be a big piece to solidify the Patriots’ line and help Drake Maye and their entire offense going forward.

The Pick: 1

The Selection: Travis Hunter WR/CB, Colorado, 6-foot-1, 185 lbs

The write-up: Every week, Hunter is tracking closer to being the No. 1 overall pick. He’s been sensational in every regard as a receiver and cornerback and has elite-level traits that can translate at the next level.”

The Pick: 1

The Selection: Travis Hunter WR/CB, Colorado, 6-foot-1, 185 lbs

The write-up: “Travis Hunter Jr. will almost certainly play wide receiver at the next level unless he plays both ways. The offensive line remains a problem, but there is not an overwhelming tackle option to consider at No. 1 overall right now. Trade down would be easy if there were a clear-cut top quarterback. As it stands, Hunter may be the best option for the Patriots.
