BOSTON — A familiar saying in baseball is that it’s very difficult for one major league team to sweep another. Not only is that familiar; it’s also undeniably true.

But after the Chicago White Sox scored five runs in the top of the ninth Sunday to secure a 7-2 win over the Red Sox, thus avoiding one of those sweeps, the following is also true: the White Sox aren’t a major league team. Not really.
